About

Hey there! I am Basti…

…your extended reality expert, passionate multi-media creator, real life enthusiast & founder of companion.digital

I believe XR is more than just technology—it’s a powerful design space for creativity and collaboration. By blending artistry with cutting-edge tech, we can craft experiences that are not only immersive but also deeply engaging and accessible. With the goal of enhancing audience participation and social interaction, I want to empower creators, artists, and institutions to explore new frontiers in interactive technology.

Collaborative exploration and shared experiences, are key drivers for a sustainable future.

Through companion.digital, I bring together my professional expertise and personal passions to create meaningful audience experiences. Whether I’m developing custom solutions, advising on technologically aided interactive events, or mentoring teams in XR technology, my goal is always to keep the human connections at the forefront.

With a vast experience in extended realities and software engineering, I’ve had the privilege of working on cutting-edge projects across industries. My journey began at the Bauhaus-University in Weimar, where I earned my Bachelor’s & Master’s degrees in Computer Science and Media, laying the foundation for my curiosity in user-focused, interactive technology. Since then, I’ve collaborated with international and interdisciplinary teams on foundational XR research and development and led applied projects in the creative and cultural sectors.

Outside the office, I’m deeply involved in the worlds of skateboarding, rock music, guitar building, and tabletop roleplaying games. These subcultures thrive on community, creativity, and collective excitement—values that resonate with me and inspire my work.

I channel this philosophy into my independent creative outlet, umme.life, where I publish & promote DIY projects across various subcultures. It’s a space that celebrates experimentation and collaboration, much like the XR projects I spearhead.
